Still, fortune favors the brave, and there are days when the breakaway has a very good chance of staying away all the way to the finish line. In a solo breakaway, a rider must always fight the wind, in a small breakaway, even when the riders cooperate, each person’s share of the effort is bigger than in the peloton. More often than not, riders who race ahead of the main group early on get caught. If you are new to the sport, a breakaway might seem like a vain effort.
